David Harris Advocates Blood Donation by Seniors
The Elderly Can Donate Blood Too
In a recent letter to the editor of the Valley News in Lebanon, New Hampshire, David Harris, Sr. writes the following:
To The Editor:
Your Sunday front page article on helping the Red Cross replenish its blood supply featured a 75-year-old donor who had given 75 pints. One of the reasons listed for the present shortage of blood supplies is the increasing number of older people needing blood. We older people - I'm 78 - should be giving more and some of us don't because we think there is still an age ceiling as there was some years ago. But that's gone and a regular donor and local hero, Mr. Cutting Johnson of Norwich, has lost count of his pints given and has let me overcome his modesty to call your attention to his being 10 years old than me!
The local Red Cross....will help you find where and when you can donate. You will not be accepted if there is any danger, but even then, you also will have the satisfaction of making an offering to someone who needs life-saving help, and you can feel proud.
