Phyllis' Story
Phyllis Clukay
Severe Anemia Athol Memorial Hospital
Phyllis Clukay, a petite 84 year-old former high school English teacher and mother of two, was diagnosed with severe anemia in 1999. Complications from autoimmune diseases have made her condition particularly hard to treat and she relies on the blood transfusions she receives at Athol Memorial Hospital to maintain her active lifestyle and independence.
Phyllis is thankful for the blood she receives from the Red Cross and the care she gets at Athol Memorial Hospital. It gives her the energy to spend time with her two young grandsons and enjoy the company of family and friends.
