Madelina's Story
Madelina LaDore.
Rare Hereditary Disorder
Madelina has inherited a rare hereditary condition called Hereditary Spherocytosis. This condition causes red blood cells to become trapped in narrow blood passages (usually the spleen) where they break up, often leading to hemolytic anemia. Last year, Madelina required a blood transfusion. Thanks to volunteer blood donors, Madelina is happy and healthy.
The LaDore family is thrilled that Madelina is currently doing so well. Joey LaDore, Madelina's father, sent a check to the American Red Cross Blood Services as a thank you for its role in helping Madelina recover from her low red blood cell count. According to Joey, "I would like to give back to the organization that was an integral part of her getting better - the American Red Cross." Of course, the Red Cross can only provide the blood needed by Madelina and countless other patients when volunteer donors roll up their sleeve to give the Gift of Life.
The funds from the check were raised through the profits from the sale of CDs from Joey's band, Mean Carlene.
Red Cross blood donors help patients just like Madelina in cities and towns throughout New England and across the United States. Please….give blood.
