Giovanni's Story
Giovanni Guglielmo
Rare Immune Deficiency Disorder
Giovanni Guglielmo was born on July 24, 2006 with a rare immune deficiency disorder that threatened his life.
Giovanni used many blood products at Children's Hospital in Boston while waiting for a bone marrow transplant. Little Giovanni had a cord blood transplant in March 2007. The Guglielmo family has begun a bone marrow movement in Giovanni's name - Save Giovanni's Friends - with a goal of adding 100,000 new names to the national bone marrow registry and has started teaming up with Red Cross blood drives. Won't you please help children like little Giovanni?
Giovanni is recovering from his transplant. Recent blood tests show that his cells are 100% donor cells. He is slowly withdrawing from his medications and is doing great, thanks in part to volunteer blood donors and his cord blood donor.
Red Cross blood donors help patients just like Giovanni in cities and towns throughout New England and across the United States. Please….give blood.
