Madison's Story
Neuroblastoma
Four years ago, Madison, age 10, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that often affects children. As part of her treatment, she underwent a rigorous chemotherapy regimen and two bone marrow transplants.
During her treatment process, Madison received several units of platelets and red blood cells. Red cells carry oxygen to tissues. Platelets are small, colorless, irregularly shaped cells present in the blood. Their sticky surface lets them, along with other substances, form clots to stop bleeding.
Because blood and platelets were available when needed, today Madison is now in remission. Thanks to blood donors, she was given another chance at a healthy life.
Red Cross blood donors help patients just like Madison in cities and towns throughout New England and across the United States. Please….give blood.
