Lucky Harley Sportster Winner Chosen
Harley Davidson Dealers Helped Rev Up Holiday Blood Donations

David Belyea of Bath, New Hampshire was chosen as the lucky winner of a brand new Harley Davidson Sportster on January 15. Belyea’s name was selected from among hundreds of entrants in a holiday raffle sponsored by the American Red Cross Blood Services, Northern New England Region and five Harley Davidson dealerships throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Each of the following Harley dealerships agreed to split the retail cost of the bike, valued at $ 6900.00:
A number of blood drives were also scheduled in December at Harley dealerships throughout the region.
The names of three semi-finalists were drawn from all contest entries. In addition to David Belyea, James Atchinson of Waterbury, Vermont and Linda Julian of Westbrook, Maine were also selected as semi-finalists. James, a long time donor, works at KDP in Montpelier, Vermont and usually donates blood there. He learned to give blood from his parents' example. Linda, who has also donated blood for over 20 years, gave blood on New Year's Eve at the Knights of Columbus in Westbrook, Maine where she entered the contest.
David has been a dedicated Red Cross blood donor for at least 20 years. An employee of Coventry Log Homes in Woodsville, New Hampshire, he typically donates blood in Haverhill but decided to give blood in December at a drive being held at Monroe Health Clinic in Monroe, New Hampshire. That decision turned out to be a fortunate one for David, as well as for the patients who may benefit from his blood donation.
David Belyea is no stranger to the need for blood. At the age of 18, he underwent open heart surgery and received units of donated blood during the procedure. He has been returning the favor ever since.
The popularity of the Harley giveaway helped increase blood donations during the busy holiday season, a time when supplies generally decline. For more information about giving blood, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or send us an email.
Thank you, participating Harley-Davidson dealerships, for your support of patients who rely on blood transfusions!
