The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization and is one of the top ranked non-profits by watchdog groups in the United States. More than 91% of funds donated to the Red Cross go directly to services for the community.

Volunteers are key to providing services throughout New England. Red Cross volunteers respond on average to seven single-family fires each day in New England. Last year volunteers gave more than 170,000 volunteer hours in Boston alone.

The American Red Cross is part of a worldwide network providing military families with 24-hour emergency communication and financial assistance in the event of a family emergency, birth, serious illness or death. The Red Cross trains thousands of individuals in its health and safety services courses. Last year alone, Red Cross trained approximately 200,000 New Englanders in CPR, first and and water safety.

The many services provided by local American Red Cross Chapters are supported through community donations and allocated funds from the United Way. The blood program is supported through fees hospitals pay for products and services, collection, processing and testing of blood.
