Susan Parmer has been with the New England Region since 1980, beginning as a staff nurse and rising to Director of Vermont Operations in 1996. In this capacity she managed all aspects of blood collection and donor recruitment for the state of Vermont. In 2002, Susan became Senior Director, overseeing these functions for New Hampshire and western Massachusetts as well. In 2004, she accepted the position of Regional Director of Donor Services for the entire New England Region. In January 2005, she was appointed Executive Director of the northern portion of the New England Region, overseeing Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont Operations.

Susan's leadership style - employing an openness to new ideas, an appreciation of the skills and talents of her staff and an entreprenuerial way of thinking - have made the locations under her direction extremely successful. Susan and her team are known for their unconventional ways of recruiting donors and promoting Red Cross Blood Services.

Education
Susan Parmer is a graduate of the University of Vermont School of Nursing and holds a B.A. in Anthropology from California State University at Long Beach.

Professional History
Prior to her work with the American Red Cross Blood Services, Susan was on the nursing staff of Maine Medical Center and the University of California at Irvine Medical Center.

In 2000, she was a recipient of the Tiffany Award, the highest honor presented to American Red Cross employees.

At Leisure
When not at the Red Cross, Susan can be seen actively volunteering in both community and public school programs in the Burlington area. Susan resides in Burlington with her husband, Steve, her sons Jack and Chris and their toy poodle, Billy. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, skiing, gardening and traveling and has recently taken up mountain bike racing.
