Type O Donors Are Needed Every Day!
- When an emergency occurs and every second counts....
- When a premature baby needs blood....
- When there isn't time for a patient to be cross-matched....
Your Type O blood comes to the rescue!
We think you should know just how important you really are. While nearly 50% of the
population has Type O blood, the percentage of people who can receive your blood
type far exceeds this number.
Individuals who are Type O can only receive Type O blood; however, in an emergency
situation, Type O can be used as a back up for other blood types. O Positive blood can
be transfused to a person with any positive blood type and O Negative can be
transfused to a person with any blood type. This means there is always a great
demand for Type O blood.
As an O donor, you are in great demand. There are four things you can do to assure
that a patient will have Type O blood available when he or she needs it:
- Become a regular, every-8-week donor
- Bring a friend and/or relative with you
- Ask about becoming a Double Red Cell donor
- Inform others of the need for Type O donors
The need for Type O blood by area hospitals has increased dramatically over the past
several years. The summer months and holidays are times when Type O reserves are
of particular concern.
We look forward to seeing you on a regular basis. Patients are counting on YOU.
