The curtain went up on the fifth annual Gift of Life Marathon at the historic Paramount Theatre in Rutland on Tuesday, December 18. In doing so, it once again set a record, not only for Vermont but for all of northern New England. An incredible 850 people came through the doors and 715 lifesaving units of blood were collected for holiday needs. Many people also opted to get tested to be placed on the bone marrow list by representatives from Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Donors were heard to comment that this holiday blood drive was now a "must" on their list of holiday traditions, as families and groups of friends and co-workers gathered to give the most special gift of all this season.
