Volunteer of the Month
Joyce Austin
Joyce Austin has been volunteering at the American Red Cross Donor Center in Burlington for just about a year. She began helping with our mobile calls, reminding donors of upcoming blood drives. We enjoyed hearing Joyce make her calls so much that we were thrilled when she asked if there were other duties she could help fulfill.
Joyce now acts as greeter for the donor center and also at area blood drives. Having been involved with area credit unions for 34 years, she knows many people in the community and enjoys people very much. We find her pleasant nature a real asset in making donors feel welcome as soon as they arrive at the blood drive.
Joyce was married for 48 years to Wendell Austin, who passed away six years ago. They had three children together: Deborah, Candy and Duane. Joyce now enjoys her six grandchildren: Brian, Jeremy, Jessica, Meghan, Troy and Ryan.
When Joyce is not helping at the donor center or at Red Cross blood drives in the area, she enjoys her retirement by participating in bingo, reading, knitting, embroidery, crochet, antiquing, craft shows and attending movies.
The American Red Cross Blood Services in Vermont is extremely fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers! We truly value their friendship.
