Meet Shirley Cross! Shirley came to us in July 2005 when she retired as a Customer Services representative at Merchants Bank. Now, she's providing that excellent customer service at the Burlington Red Cross Blood Center.

Shirley came in to volunteer after reading about our need for additional volunteers in the Burlington Free Press. With lots of personality and a flexible nature, Shirley varies her time between greeting donors at the registration desk and serving them refreshments after they've completed their donation.

Shirley says she appreciates the fact that she can meet so many nice people with such interesting backgrounds - both donors and Red Cross staff - by working here. "Everyone seems to have a lot of fun here!"

In addition to helping out at the Red Cross, Shirley works part-time at a convenience store near her home. She also joins her husband, Hazen, a member of the Elks Club on North Avenue in Burlington, helping out with banquets and dinners. Together, they've been performing this service for the past nine years.

Shirley Cross enjoys the company of her grandchildren - Kyle, 13 and Katie, 9 and enthusiastically supports their sports activities.

Shirley helps make the Red Cross Blood Center a pleasant place for people to come and give the Gift of Life. "I believe acknowledging people for coming in to donate makes all the difference," Shirley says.

The American Red Cross Blood Services in Vermont is extremely fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers! We truly value their friendship.
